Dec 13, 2011 − We are proud of maintaining KNP Bundles, the famous unofficial web resource for Symfony2 bundles, and we're commited to making it really useful and usable. That's why some of our KNP ninjas spent their last "geek time" fridays working on it… We would like to introduce the latest changes: showing the trending bundles and evolution page, GitHub connect and bundles recommendations.

Trending bundles

Most of you will probably remember the time when KNP Bundles homepage listed the top bundles and was pretty static (as Symfony2 bundles top 10 is rather stable).

We decided to liven up this page!
That's where the idea with trending bundles came from: now you can see the list of bundles with the best score increase on KNP Bundles homepage.
Moreover you can get daily updates on trending bundles by following us on twitter!

Community size

Symfony2 is not just a PHP framework. It's more about being a community and an ecosystem. We have some numbers which can repesent its growth. Now you have a chance to see the progress of Symfony2 community on our Evolution page. We have also added evolution graphs for every bundle, so you could easily check the progress of your own (or your favorite) bundle.

Github Connect

If you use Symfony2 you most likely should have a GitHub account and visit KNP Bundles to search the bundles you need.
That's why we decided to use GitHub connect in order to introduce some social features. No registration! It's really simple to login via GitHub, and bam you're among the 50+ registered KNP Bundles users.

New features will then be available to you − for example adding a bundle manually if our bot missed it during the night crawl.

Recommend the bundles you love!

But the most amazing feature is the bundle recommendation. You can now easily recommend a bundle by using the appropriate button at the right sidebar. Try this and your favourite bundle will get +5 to its overall score. This way we are able to distinguish and show you the most recommended bundles… and you will know if people like Stof, Lukas, Johannes or William recommends it. So you too, recommend the bundles you love now to improve their score and help others in their decision!

Thanks, community

We would like to thank you for your ideas and contributions to KNP Bundles. Special thanks to Michał, Stof, Lukas and Clément!

Now we would be happy to hear your opinion on the future development of KNP Bundles. So please tell us what features you do need and what can be enhanced.

A few ideas of ours:

  • Add a Q&A for each bundle
  • Use composer tags to allow searching by tag
  • Allow community ratings for each bundle
  • Use RabbitMQ for bundles updates (work in progress)

What do you think?
Let's make KNP Bundles better together!
